Assistive devices can be very helpful for patients with GNE Myopathy, as they can improve mobility and independence, and reduce the risk of falls and injuries. Some common assistive devices that may be recommended for individuals with GNE Myopathy include -

Mobility aids : These can include canes, walkers, or wheelchairs, depending on the individual's level of mobility. These devices can help individuals with GNE Myopathy to move around more easily and safely, and reduce the risk of falls.

Orthotics : These devices can be worn on the feet, legs, or arms, and can help to support weak muscles and improve mobility. Examples include ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) or knee-ankle-foot orthoses (KAFOs).

Adaptive equipment : This can include specialized tools or equipment that are designed to make daily activities easier and safer. Examples may include utensils with larger handles, devices to help with dressing or bathing, or modified vehicles for transportation.

Communication aids : In some cases, individuals with GNE Myopathy may experience weakness in the muscles used for speaking. In these cases, communication aids such as speech-generating devices or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems may be helpful.

It is important for individuals with GNE Myopathy to work closely with their healthcare team and a rehabilitation specialist to determine which assistive devices may be most helpful for their specific needs.
